3/14/2007: Union County (NC) Tax Evaluation to Occur in 2008. (Union Update)  Summary: Union County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to change the date of revaluation of real property from 2012 to 2008. Union county's last revaluation occurred in 2004. State law requires revaluations at least every eight years and more than every four years.

03/12/2007:  Charlotte's Housing Market Attracts Builders (Charlotte Observer):  Summary: Downie Saussy has teamed with Chip Shelton and Jack Furr (Liberty Homes) to create Walker Madison Homes. (Downie owned Saussy-Burbank before selling to Arvida in 2000.) He defines Walker Madison offerings as "homes of distinctive design, craftsmanship and quality...". Among the reasons for getting back into the home building business, Saussey cites Charlotte's "...housing is appreciating at a steady 2 percent to 7 percent a year, and the region is experiencing healthy job generation and population growth." Walker Madison's first entries will be in Riverbend (MLS Area 9/3) in northwest Charlotte low $200,000+s, Herndon Heritage in Rock Hill (MLS Area 17/19) 1-acre lots, mid 300+'s, and The Woodlands in Davidson (MLS Area 1/7) in the 400's.   
 
03/10/2007:  NC 16 Widening Delayed by Environmental Concerns (Charlotte Observer): Summary: NC 16 (South Charlotte) or Providence Road as it is known locally, scheduled for widening from 1-485 south to where it meets Rea Road, has temporarily hit a snag: The endangered Heelsplitter mussel (also holding up the Lawyer's Rd - Mint Hill mall) is the reason.
 
racehighrock.com 03/07/2007:  Country Club Road Course Condos Rowan County, 45 miles NE from Uptown Charlotte in Spencer (Charlotte Observer) Summary: Similar to a golf country club in concept, High Rock Race Club will feature a 2.25 mile road course with 12 turns and 10 elevation changes from 30 to 60 feet. 120 condos and 20 single family homes are planned for the community, just 30 miles up i-85 from Lowes Motor Speedway (NASCAR). The condos will be 25x32 over a 24x25 climate controlled garage - hydraulic lift available. Condo owners will have full equity memberships and exclusive use of the road course 60 days a year. Non-resident memberships will be available. While town approval is pending, 21 units have already been reserved by buyers. Opinion: Starts will be timed to avoid side by side racing, making it just you and road. This is why you bought her. 
03/04/2007:  The Vineyard at Lake Wylie - Sales to Start Soon   (Mls Map SW-Charlotte Area 7/4) (Charlotte Observer) Summary: The Vineyards (D.R. Horton) will feature 1,030 homes on 600 acres about a mile southwest of Interstate 485 and Wilkinson Boulevard. Phase one will include townhomes, ranch homes and estate homes and will range in size from about 2,300 to 4,300 square feet and in price from the low $200,000s to the $600,000s. About 70 percent of all homes will have water views. Approximately 120 docks will be available for purchase.
03/04/2007:  New State Designation Could Help NC 150  (Mls Map Lake Norman Area 13/2 & 13/5) (Charlotte Observer) Summary: While there is no current plan to widen N.C. 150, the state Board of Transportation has labeled N.C. 150 from Lincolnton to Mooresville a strategic highway corridor, a designation that could improve its chances to receive state funds for widening. 
03/02/2007:  JetBlue to Add Boston/Charlotte Service May 1 and One Additional JFK Flight (Charlotte Business Journal) Summary: Low cost carrier JetBlue announces the start up of Boston to Charlotte service May 1. It is also adding an additional flight from NY's JFK to Charlotte. Opinion: Northerners are finding Charlotte the place to relocate.
     
03/01/2007:  NorthEast Medical Center (Cabarrus County) - Capital Improvements (Charlotte Observer) Summary: NorthEast recently announced a merger with Carolinas HealthCare System. Article discusses the renovations and new building that will include space for major services such as cardiology, oncology and obstetrics.
